How to Start Hunting on a Limited Budget

We recently asked the East to West Hunting Group on Facebook what advice they would give to new hunters who are starting out on a limited budget for gear and clothing. This episode breaks down their advice. We're talking about online resources for affordable, quality gear, how to incorporate clothing and gear that you already might own, how to prioritize your needs based upon desired hunting opportunities and more. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this community effort!

TIPS:

1. Start with the clothing, boots and gear that you already own. It doesn't have to be camoflauge. You want functional gear that can keep you warm, dry, quiet and concealed.

2. Think through your hunting objectives and goals. If you're just getting started, a day hunt with a friend might be on your radar. What time of year is it? How warm or cold? How much walking or sitting will you be doing? These questions will help you prioritize what gear you may need if any based upon what you already might have in terms of multipurpose clothing and boots.

3. Shotguns are the Swiss Army Knife of hunting implements - they can be used for both small game and big game hunting in most parts of the country.

4. There are many online resources out there that offer great deals on clothing and boots that can be used for many outdoor recreational activities - not just hunting but hiking, camping, birding and paddling. Here are some links:

Don't forget Walmart, Target, and Ebay for affordable synthetic layers

5. You can always graduate up into newer, higher tech clothing and boots as you gain experience and learn what type of hunting you prefer and what type of gear and clothing is most compatible with it.
